rules, tips and inspiration
Get your team a small advantage by reading these rules and tips for the Creative Teamwork Event on Saturday! Read the rules for your team video, get smart editing tips and check out our suggestions for cool dance locations.
The rules
During the day you’ll create a dance video with your team. We showcase these in the evening and together we vote for the winning movement film based on these criteria:

1. Music
On Saturday morning, you and your team randomly pick a song that you’ll need to create your video. It's not allowed to switch songs. We believe in you!

2. Duration
Your video duration is anything between 1.30 and 3 minutes. Which part of the song you use, is all up to you.

3. Film vertically (Instagram format)
For the Instagram format, your videos look best if you film vertically.

4. Musicality
Connect with your speaker and listen to the song. What parts can you hit? How do you use your creativity in this?

5. Originality
Do you come up with creative ideas? Do you use variety in your movement, characters, location, background, film perspectives, dynamics, transitions and attributes?

6. Storytelling
What do you want to communicate to your audience and in what way? What do you feel when you listen to the song? Do you want to highlight something or leave a message? How do you end your video?

7. Playfulness
How do you want to translate your video and connect with your characteristic self? How are you going to do this as a team? Can you add a bit of fun to it without losing the essence of the video?

8. Team effort
Your video contains at least 16 counts of group choreo with all your team members. For the rest of the video, you’re free to decide. You can pick a main character, shoot some group scenes or shoot some without dancing. Be creative!

9. Location
Create a dance video that you can’t make at a random street in London, Barcelona, Paris or Berlin. You’re in Amsterdam now! We love to see how you use your background in a creative way. For example: in the concept video of Britt and Soof, they’re outdoors. They used their environment to hang in a tree, blow flowers to the camera and dance.

10. Time limit: hand in your video before 18.15 pm*!
Videos that are handed in later are disqualified from the competition. We really need this time to get your videos ready for the showcase.

Tips for smooth editing
We all know editing takes up the most time. So make sure you’ll have a plan. Here are our tips for smooth editing.
1. Choose the editor
Decide which one of you will edit the videos. Make sure your editor films all the clips, or receives all the clips on time in the right format. And don’t forget to charge your phone in time. You can use free Wifi and sockets at our location StayOkay.
2. Pick your favorite editing app
InShot or CapCut are some of our favorites to work with. You might already know them.
3. Create timestamps
When you’re creating a video with many different scenes, it’s good to divide these beforehand in your editing app. You can add the music to your template with only a black background. From there you can listen to parts you like to use for scenes and cut these parts.
Next, give each scene a different background color and you know exactly how far you’ve come already during your filming day. It’s best to start editing a bit in between already, so you know how much you still need to do!
4. Don’t over-edit
Editing apps have a lot to offer when it comes to effects. We are aware of the fact that this also can ruin the quality and the essence of the video. Make sure to use it well!

Awesome locations

You can create your video anywhere you like! But to get you started, here are some of our suggestions. Pro-tip: check out your travelling time in advance, so you can make a proper planning of the day.
Walking distance
There’s plenty of space at Oosterpark or Flevopark. For urban vibes, go to the hidden skate ramp at the edge of Flevopark. Or dance on a hidden bridge next to the railway. Looking for a nice windmill and a cool beer? Brouwerij ‘t IJ is your location.
City center / Amsterdam Centraal
Take tram 14 or the train from Muiderpoort to Amsterdam Centraal. From there, you walk to some nice spots. It can be crowded, so please be aware of pickpockets.
Next to the central station there’s a patio with a bad floor, but gorgeous view. Crowded cute spots are shopping areas like De 9 Straatjes, Rokin, Dam square and De Waag.
Less crowded options close to central station are the Paleis van Justitie, NEMO Science Museum (free access to the rooftop) and this replica of a VOC ship. Or take the free pont to Buiksloterweg and dance at Eye Film Museum.
Museum Quarter / Vondelpark
Welcome to classy Amsterdam. Our favorite spots here are Museumplein (perfect floor) and Vondelpark. You can use the stage at the park if there’s no event going on. A fun spot is Roemer Visscherstraat, where you’ll find 7 houses in a row that represent 7 countries.
Amsterdam West
In Amsterdam West, the Jordaan looks very pretty. If your team likes to make a lovely statement, the Homomonument might be your place. Further to the west you find the Westergasfabriek, a perfect match of park and renovated fabrics. For Dutch windmills, visit De Otter. Near our dance studio you’ll find more pretty canals.
Other fun places
Canals are always fun. Just beware you don’t throw your speaker in the water (full story provided by Theo ;)) Near Station Amsterdam Zuid you’ll find a courthouse with plenty of space to dance (the floor looks great, but isn’t smooth at all ;))
